Synthetic Grass Types

In the artificial grass business the less the material has to be processed the more expensive it is and vice versa. This statement explains why there is a gradation of retail price increases for the three types of materials sold. The grasses are:

Slit Film or Fibrillated Synthetic Grass

Polyethylene Slit Film Synthetic Grass 35 oz Face Weight Slit Film or Fibrillated artificial grasses are characterized by having wide blades of filament initially that have to be broken up into smaller blades with special processing. The Insta-Lawn and Elite products are in the slit film or fibrillated category of grasses. These grasses closely resemble fescue or blue grass. These types of grass require the most processing so they are the least expensive to purchase.

These artificial grasses are the least expensive to purchase initially but the additional cost of processing makes this a poor choice for a first time residential installation. These artificial grasses represent the least expensive choice from a cost basis. These grasses have the lowest price but the highest cost of installation. These grasses are not recommended for a first time installation. These artificial grasses require more processing than the monofilament or Knit deKnit (KDK) synthetic grass.

Bay Area Synthetic Grass installs fake grass products such as the Elite or Insta-Lawn. They are recommended for commercial, residential, outdoor applications only.

Base rock preparation, special tools and installation techniques are required for a professional installation for slit film materials.

Monofilament Synthetic Grass

Polyethylene Slit Film Synthetic Grass 35 oz Face Weight The next type of grass Bay Area Synthetic Grass installs are Monofilament grasses. There grasses are uniform in height and width and have usually thinner dimensions. For the most part they resemble rye grasses. These grasses require less processing than the fibrillated grasses and can be as expensive as slit film or fibrillated grasses to install.

Base rock preparation, special tools and installation techniques are required for a professional installation for these materials.

Knit de-Knit Synthetic Grass

The classic "Knit de-Knit" definition is a type of yarn texturizing in which a crimped yarn is made by knitting the yarn into a fabric, and then heat-setting the fabric. The yarn is then unraveled from the fabric and used in this permanently crinkled form.

A better way to explain the classic definition is the say the KDK materials have a layer of usually nylon thatch that supports th existing monofilament synthetic grass.

Knit deKnit fake grass is known for its high face weight and durability. Knit deKnit grass requires less processing than the fibrillated or monofilament grass and therefore are the most expensive to purchase initially but have the lowest cost of installation.Knit deKnit fake grass are the most expensive grasses and require the least amount of processing. These are the only grasses can be essentially rolled outlaid down and secured.

Bay Area Synthetic Grass installs KDK products such as Marque Light, Dark or Pro, Majestic or Royal grasses. They are recommended for commercial, residential , outdoor and indoor applications.

Knit deKnit fake, artificial or synthetic grass are recommended for commercial, residential, outdoor and indoor applications where no base or drainage is required, steep inclines and indoor residential applications.

The classic "Knit de-Knit" have a layer of polyethylene or nylon thatch that supports the existing monofilament blades. This material has a higher face weight and wears extremely well especially with dogs and or kids.

Base rock preparation, special tools and installation techniques are required for a professional installation for these materials.
